A funeral service for Charilaos Taliadoros, who passed away this week at the age of 95, and interment was held on Tuesday in the northern city of Thessaloniki.
A Master Head Chanter and Archon of the Archdiocese of Constantinople, Taliadoros taught Byzantine ecclesiastical music at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, at the Macedonian Conservatory and at the municipal School of Byzantine Music.

He was one of the most noteworthy and active chanters, or protopsaltis, over the past century, as well as a prolific author and academic.

A video is posted today on the pages of the Orthodoxia news agency showing the late Charilaos Taliadoros during the Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Agii Anargyri, in the Athens district of Nea Ionia, where he is shown chanting the magnificent Axion Estin hymn during veneration of the Cincture of the Theotokos, the Virgin Mary, which had been conveyed to the cathedral from the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi.
