Vigorous missionary work in southern Mexico, Guatemala by Holy Metropolis of Mexico

The Archbishop of Mexico, His Eminence Athenagoras, this week referred to the vigorous missionary work now underway in southern Mexico and Guatemala by the Orthodox Church, pointing out that only five priests now minister to more than 100 budding Orthodox communities.

His Eminence, who also has ecclesiastical jurisdiction for Central America, the Caribbean island states, Colombia and Venezuela, added that baptisms into the Orthodox faith continue at a rapid pace.

One new cleric of the Holy Metropolis of Mexico, Fr. Thomas, was ordained only last June, and serves at the Metropolis’ seat in Mexico City.

His Eminence Athenagoras had previously detailed the Metropolis’ missionary work throughout the vast region in an interview with the Orthodoxia news agency and journalist Maria Giahnaki.
