Visit of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia to “St John’s Community Care” in Cairns, FNQ
His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, had the opportunity to communicate in person with the Greek Orthodox flock of the city of Cairns, during his pastoral visit to Far North Queensland, on the occasion of the laying of the foundation stone of the new accommodation facilities for seniors “St John’s Arlington Lifestyle Apartments”.
His Eminence received a warm welcome and hospitality from the members of the Community of Saint John the Baptist, while during his visit there he visited the facilities of the organisation of “St John’s Community Care”, where he spoke with the valued staff, congratulated them for their contribution and blessed the wonderful work that they do for those ill and in need of specialised care and assistance.
Also, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia had meetings with the President Mr. Theodoros Bacalakis and the members of the Organisation’s Board of Directors, and with the Proistamenos of the Church of St. John the Baptist, Father Menelaos Hatzoglou, and the members of the Parish Council, during which he was informed extensively about a whole range of activities of the “Saint John” organisation, as well as for the plans for its further development, while he accordingly proposed programs for the advancement of parish life. His Eminence gave credit, once again, to the staff of the “St John’s Community Care”, which is constantly strengthening its social footprint throughout the State of Queensland.
The interesting and productive meetings of His Eminence concluded with his visit to the Kindergarten of the Parish of Saint John, where he saw the smiling faces of the children, to whom he devoted much time to converse with them, to give them his paternal blessings and to offer them an icon of Christ. He also spoke with the staff of the facility, who he thanked most heartily for the services and care they provide.
