Reports: Archbishop Ieronymos at education & religious ministry on Fri.; meeting with Angelopoulos-Daskalaki as well

Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Eminence Ieronymos, will reportedly arrive at the education and religious affairs ministry on Friday for a high-profile meeting with Minister Niki Kerameos, according to information learned by the Orthodoxia news agency.

Although the meeting is viewed as reciprocation for Kerameos’ visit to the Athens Archdiocese, soon after her appointment to the Cabinet, it nevertheless entails a both a highly symbolic but also substantive nature.

Immediately after the formation, last month, of a center-right government led by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the new ministry leadership signaled its intent to reverse the negative relationship between Church and state that emerged over the recent period, while also saying no changes will be made to the salary regime for registered clerics in the country.

According to the same reports, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Greece will also receive, this week, the new chief of Greek Police (EL.AS) as well as Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, who was recently appointed by Mitsotakis to head up preparations for “Greece 2021”, the series of events and commemorations for the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the Greek War of Independence.
