Thessaloniki: Hierarchical Concelebration and the beginning of the Holy Week of Saint Dimitrios
On Sunday, 19 October 2025 (Third Sunday of Luke), a Grand Poly-Hierarchical Divine Liturgy took place at the Pilgrimage Church of Saint Dimitrios, the Patron Saint of Thessaloniki.
During the service of Matins, His Eminence Metropolitan Ioustinos of Nea Krini and Kalamaria presided. The Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was led by His Eminence Metropolitan Vasileios of Constantia, concelebrating with Their Eminences Metropolitans Chrysostomos of Messinia, Ioustinos of Nea Krini and Kalamaria, Myron of New Zealand, His Grace Bishop Nikiforos of Amorion, and the local Hierarch, His Eminence Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki, together with a great number of clergy. During the Communion hymn, His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia delivered the homily, reflecting on the day’s Gospel passage (Luke 7:11–16).
Before the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, and according to the established order, the reliquary containing the sacred relics of Saint Dimitrios was solemnly brought out from its ciborium. In a litany held within the church, it was placed on the solea for veneration alongside the wonderworking icon of the Mother of God Panagia Phaneromeni of Vathyrryakos.

A great multitude of faithful from Thessaloniki and beyond, as well as Orthodox pilgrims, filled the radiant Pilgrimage Church of Saint Dimitrios the Patron, to venerate his miraculous holy relics and the revered icon of the Theotokos Panagia Phaneromeni of Vathyrryakos, seeking the grace and blessing of these holy treasures and to take part in the festive ceremonies marking the beginning of the Holy Week of Saint Dimitrios in Thessaloniki.
