Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of America begins on Monday

The Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros, on Tuesday delivered the opening address at the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States, which is taking place in Bethesda, Maryland.
Among others, the Archbishop noted that “…Our Assembly has a deep and abiding responsibility to be a unified voice defending the traditions of the Church, and not give in to extremes that would steer the People of God away from the path to the Promised Land.”

His Eminence also briefed Orthodox hierarchs over the coming visit to the United States of the Patriarch of Serbia, His Holiness Porfirije, the first since his election to the throne of the Serbian Church, as well as that of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I.

On Sunday an Archieratical Divine Liturgy was held at the St. Sophia Greek Orthodox cathedral in Washington D.C., officiated by Archbishop Elpidophoros.
