Church of Greece Holy Synod: Earlier times for services during Holy & Great Easter Week; Resurrection Service at 9 p.m.

The hierarchs of the permanent Holy Synod of the Church of Greece on Tuesday announced a decision whereby Holy Services during upcoming Great Easter Week will conclude earlier in the evening than in previous years, per traditional. Moreover, the Resurrection Service on Holy Saturday will be conducted no later than 9 p.m., rather than at roughly midnight.

The midnight Resurrection Service, the climax of the devotional and reverent Great and Holy Easter, the most significant holy days on the Orthodox ecclesiastical calendar, will be conducted in cathedrals and chapels’ courtyards, the Holy Synod announcement read.
An earlier Vespers service will be held on Palm Sunday as well.

Holy and Great Easter falls on May 2 this year, with Palm Sunday on April 25.
The ratio for worshippers allowed into places of worship, one person per 25 square meters of interior space, will continue, as well as a maximum ceiling of 100 worshiper per cathedral, regardless of size.
