The Church today venerates the Eight Holy Martyrs — Peter, Dionysius, Andrew, Paul, Christina, Heraclius, Paulinus and Benedimus.
These saints, from various parts of the Roman Empire, all contested in martyrdom during the reign of Emperor Decius in the third century.
