The Ecumenical Patriarch, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, on Monday underlined, in a brief address, that the “Patriarchate’s unwavering position is to contribute towards the rapprochement and mutual cooperation between individuals and peoples, especially of neighboring peoples.”

The Primate of the of Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople delivered a timely and symbolic address that expressed the Mother Church’s wisdom amid a yet another period of heightened tensions worldwide and regionally.

His All Holiness made the statement during a visit to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Trinity (Stravrodromion) near Taksim Square in the Beyoglu district, on the occasion of the Monday of the Holy Spirit Feast Day.

The Ecumenical Patriarch’s intervention comes amid a period when geopolitical interests and antagonisms in the eastern Mediterranean have soured relations between official Athens and Ankara.
