The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, this week granted an interview to the Serbian newspaper “Politika”.
Among others, the Ecumenical Patriarch emphasized that “…whatever the Ecumenical Patriarchate is and holds, it owes to the Church. We are not a self-made entity, but an existence that arose with the grace of the Holy Spirit”.

The interview by His All Holiness, in fact, was entitled in Serbian, “I am not the pope of the East”.
The Ecumenical Patriarch also warned that promoting a national conscious over the Church will — inevitably — lead to a rejection of the Church’s stature and its Ecumenical character.
