Hellenic Orthodox Community of Astoria Hosts Week of the Feast of St. Demetrios
The Hellenic Orthodox Community of Astoria warmly invites you and your loved ones to join in celebrating the week of the feast of Saint Demetrios the Myrrh-Streamer and Great Martyr, the patron saint of their Cathedral, every day this week until Saturday, October 26, 2024.
This will be a spiritually enriching week of sacred services, including daily Matins & Divine Liturgy at 8 a.m. and Vespers at 7 p.m.
On Wednesday, October 23, the Sacrament of Holy Unction will be celebrated, followed by a Spiritual Talk from Elder Philemon from Mount Athos. On Thursday, October 24, we will hold a Vigil.
The Procession of the Holy Icon and the Holy Relics of Saint Demetrios will take place on Friday, October 25, following Vespers.
The Community is especially blessed this year by the arrival of the myrrh-streaming miraculous icon of Panagia Kardiotissa [The Tender-Heart].
The St. Demetrios Cathedral will be open daily this week from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Bring your family and friends, and join the reception on Friday night and luncheon on Saturday!
