Holy Metropolis of Zambia mobilized for Patriachal visit – Meeting of Metropolitan Ioannis with the Secretary to the Cabinet for final arrangements
The Holy Metropolis of Zambia and Mozambique is working intensively ahead of the official Patriarchal Visit of His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa Theodore II to Zambia, scheduled for 21–26 May 2026.
As part of the preparations, His Eminence Metropolitan Ioannis of Zambia held a private working meeting yesterday with the Secretary to the Cabinet of Zambia, Mr. Patrick Kangwa. The meeting focused on coordinating and finalizing the details of the historic visit of the Primate of the Second Throne Patriarchate, with emphasis on matters of protocol and hospitality.
His Beatitude’s visit coincides with another event of major importance for the country. During the same period, the capital city Lusaka will host a large business delegation from Greece, arriving in Zambia to participate in targeted business meetings and in a Conference on Extroversion and Entrepreneurship.
The Conference will be held in Lusaka at the new Mulungushi International Conference Centre, with the participation of Chambers of Commerce and distinguished “Champion” entrepreneurs from Greece, South Africa, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. The aim is to strengthen trade and investment ties between Greece and the countries of Southern Africa.
Invited to attend on behalf of the Greek political leadership are the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Harry Theoharis, and the Minister of Development, Mr. Lazaros Tsavlaridis.
According to the programme, the Conference will be honored by the presence and address of His Beatitude the Patriarch of Alexandria Theodore II, while H.E. the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, is also expected to attend and deliver greetings.
The concurrence of these two events highlights the multifaceted role of the Patriarchal Visit, which beyond its spiritual and pastoral dimension, also serves as a bridge of friendship, cooperation, and extroversion between.
