Russian Orthodox Church’s Metropolitan of Volokolamsk, His Eminence Hilarion, this week underlined that the greatest of all basilicas of eastern Christendom is still considered by the Russian Church as a Christian place of worship.

Hilarion, who is the Moscow Patriarchate’s head of the department for external Church relations, told a Russian television program that both the Russian Patriarch and the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church have expressed concern over the decision by the Erdogan administration to convert Hagia Sophia into a mosque.
