Metropolitan of Alexandroupolis rings ‘alarm bells’ over situation in NE Thrace province

The Metropolitan of Alexandroupolis, His Eminence Anthimos, this week warned of looming threats and challenges faced in northeast Greece’s Thrace province. Anthimos’ Metropolis lies on the land boundary between the predominately Orthodox Christian country and the European portion of Turkey – in the Thrace province.

According to His Eminence, “… the situation in Greek Thrace, due to contemporary geopolitical developments, is serious and critical. A serious and responsible national contemplation is now necessary… I consider, more so than at any other recent time, that the upcoming Greek Parliament must adopt a proposal for the creation of a bipartisan committee to focus on Thrace,” he said.

The Orthodoxia News Agency‘s web-pages today feature several reports on the situation in the border region, at a time when Orthodoxy is increasingly coming under attacks elsewhere in the Balkans, such as in Montenegro, Kosovo and Albania.
