Parishes in Southeastern States Provide Hurricane Helene Relief, Food Distribution
As residents in the southeastern U.S. continue to be affected by the devastation of Hurricane Helene, parishes have begun addressing urgent needs of their communities. Over the last two weekends, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Asheville, North Carolina and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Augusta, Georgia canceled their respective Greek festivals and instead prepared the food for distribution to those in need. Despite parishioners suffering from home damage, loss of power and cell service, both parishes in the Hurricane’s path have shared their resources with their neighbors without homes, food, or water, offering a beautiful example of living the Christian faith.

Additionally, International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) responders have moved into the region to address urgent needs and assess damage. IOCC has coordinated with other response organizations, deployed its field staff to conduct needs assessments, and gathered resources for those in need. As part of our efforts, frontliners have also begun making care calls to parishes, to offer emotional support and gather information directly from those affected by the storm. Join IOCC in this response by making a donation to the U.S. Emergency Response Fund.
