Pastoral Visit of His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas to the Annunciation Church, Manchester

On the weekend of Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd November 2025, His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain made a pastoral visit to the historic Church of the Annunciation in Manchester.

The visit began on Saturday afternoon, with a short service of Agiasmos and blessing at the newly refurbished offices of the Greek Consulate, located beside the Hilton Manchester Deansgate. His Eminence was warmly received by the Consul of Greece in Manchester, Mr Alexandros Ioannides, and members of his team.

Later that afternoon, His Eminence visited the Church of the Annunciation, where he was greeted by Mr Stavros Stivaros, the Parish Chairman, and the Wardens. The celebration of Great Vespers followed, attended by clergy and faithful from neighbouring parishes and the wider region, after which light refreshments were offered in the community hall.

On Sunday, 2nd November, His Eminence presided at the Matins and Archieratical Divine Liturgy, assisted by the parish priest, Reverend Protopresbyter Theodore Polyviou, and Reverend Deacon Catalyn Constandis. The service included a Doxology for the 28th of October national celebration, with the participation of the parish school children and many faithful from Manchester and the surrounding areas.

Following the Liturgy, guests gathered for a reception and official luncheon in the community hall, attended by the Mayor of Manchester, Mr Andy Burnham, the Greek Consul, Mr Alexandros Ioannides, and other distinguished guests. Addresses were offered by the Chairman, Mr Stivaros, Mr Burnham, and Mr Ioannides, all expressing gratitude for the Archbishop’s pastoral visit and the vibrant contribution of the Greek Orthodox community to the life of the city.

The weekend concluded in an atmosphere of joy and thanksgiving, strengthening the bonds between Church, community, and civic life in Manchester.
