Patriarch Daniel, clergy dressed in vestments with traditional motifs to highlight role of Romanian village

This week, the priests at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest are wearing special vestments with traditional motifs to highlight the importance of the Romanian village as keeper of the country’s traditions, culture and spirituality.

The start was given last Sunday when His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel celebrated the Divine Liturgy dressed in the hierarchical ‘folk costume’.

‘Since the majority of the Cathedral’s ministers are people from villages, we considered it necessary to have a complete set of vestments with folk motifs,’ the Patriarch explained.

Thirty such vestments were made at the Embroidery Workshop of the Archdiocese of Bucharest for the use of the clergy at the Patriarchal Cathedral.

His Beatitude announced that the Cathedral will mark The Days of the Romanian Village until Thursday, October 24.

The Patriarch said that on Friday will begin the celebrations dedicated to Saint Demetrios the New, and that the relics of Sts Philothea and Dionysius Erhan will be brought to Bucharest.
