Reports point to easing of pandemic restrictions on Church-going, ahead of Sunday of Orthodoxy
The Greek government will reportedly ease certain pandemic-related restrictions on public assembly and non-essential movement outdoors in the coming days, with sources who spoke to the Orthodoxia news agency pointing to a decision to allow the presence of worshipers for Sunday Holy Services, with the day commemorated as Orthodox Sunday – March 21 based on the 2021 Lenten calendar.
The same sources said a Divine Liturgy will be held on the Sunday of Orthodoxy at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral, in the presence of synodical hierarchs and the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos.
According to reports, up to six of the Church of Greece’s Metropolitans will officiate at the Divine Liturgy, which will also reportedly be attended by the Greek President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
