Romanian Patriarch Daniel’s Easter Week message

The Patriarch of All Romania, His Beatitude Daniel, in his Easter Week address, noted that “… the celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord, the celebration of Holy Pascha, is the celebration of the victory of Jesus against sin, hell and death.”

Still in Romania, preparations continued this week for the mixing of the Holy Chrism, or myrrh.

After 10 years the Romanian Patriarchate this week commenced the process to prepare and consecrate the chrism, a mixture of oil and balsam used for anointing.

The Holy chrism will be prepared on Holy Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with consecration held on Holy Thursday.

The Metropolitan of Transylvania, His Eminence Laurențiu, noted that the process is a venerable Church ritual, whereby the Holy Gospel is continuously read over the three days of its preparation.

The Churches of Russia, Serbia and Romania consecrate their own Holy Chrism, whereas the rest of the canonical Orthodox Churches are supplied by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
