The St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia celebrates its summer feast
On August 30th, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church marks the second feast of the patron saint of Bulgaria’s largest church – the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral downtown Sofia where the relics of the holy Russian Prince Alexander Nevsky are kept.
On the occasion of translation of the relics of Saint Alexander Nevsky, Bishop Gerasim of Melnik celebrated the Divine Liturgy together with Bishop Policarp of Belogradchik, Vicar of the Metropolitan of Sofia, Archimandrite Basil, protosingelos of the Sofia metropolis, Archimandrite Vasian, representative of the Russian Patriarch in Bulgaria, Archimandrite Pahomii, rector of the Sofia Theological Seminary as well as with priests from the capital and deacons. His Holiness the Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte also attended the liturgy, blessing Orthodox Christians at the end of the service. The sermon for the feast was delivered by priest Anthony Milushev.
The St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral celebrates its holiday twice a year, once on August 30th and the second time on November 23th.
