Uplifting Greek Independence Day parade down Fifth Ave. in Manhattan (VIDEOS)
This year’s Greek Independence Day parade down Fifth Avenue in Manhattan was hailed as one of the best-attended of recent years.
The Archbishop of America, His Eminence Demetrios, expressed his gratitude to the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, while he also officially greeted members of Greece’s Presidential Guard, known as Evzones, presenting each serviceman and accompanying officers with a Cross.
In reference to the commemoration of the 1821 Greek War of Independence, the Archbishop referred to a “bold challenge” that will go down in history as a unique event, as well as a celebration of heroism and ingenuity.
Slogans in favor of a Cyprus without Turkish occupation troops, against the recent Prespa agreement and in favor of the rights of the ethic Greek minority in Albania were also heard.
