Feast day of St. Paraskeva of the Balkans

The Church today venerates the memory of St. Paraskeva of the Balkans, also known as St. Petka throughout much of southeast Europe, an ascetic female saint of the 10th century who hailed from the Marmara Sea settlement of Epivates, in eastern Thrace.
