Memory of Three Hierarchs commemorated at Patriarchal Cathedral of St. George in Constantinople
The memory of the Three Hierarchs – Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom – was commemorated on Monday at the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. George in Constantinople, the see of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Every Jan. 30th marks a special day in the Greek Orthodox world, as the occasion also commemorates the world-inspiring legacy of Greek letters and learning.
In his address, the Ecumenical Patriarch, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, underlined the great contributions to theology and learning by the trio of early Church illuminators, and what he called the inspired coupling of ancient Greek philosophy and Christianity.
In a related development, the Church of Greece’s Metropolitan of Argolida, His Eminence Nektarios, on the feast day of the Three Hierarchs, received scores of educators from the public and private sector in the southern prefecture, during an event to commemorate the occasion and to extol the great works by the trio of saints.
