Christmas message by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew
The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, issued a Christmas message of peace this week, even amid the drums of war still sounding in Ukraine.
His All Holiness’ message read, among others, “…never in the history of humanity has peace between peoples been a self-evident situation, but was always and everywhere a result of inspired initiatives, courage and self-sacrifice, resistance to violence and rejection of war as a means for resolving differences…Peace is a criterion for religions’ credibility.”
Back in Greece, in His Message, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, reminded that the great feast day of Christmas “…reminds us that evil is not omnipotent and unbeatable. The last word in the world does not belong to violence, tribulations, war, human weaknesses and death.”
