The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco is pleased to announce “Learning Through Serving: Project Based Learning for Religious Education”. This Zoom workshop will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. PDT and is ideal for clergy, religious educators, Sunday School directors and teachers, parents, and anyone interested in the implementation of Project Based Learning for Religious Education. The program is offered in cooperation with the Metropolis Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministries and the Christian Education Ministry.

“I am eager to see this program come to fruition as I know it will offer practical and relevant resources for the education of our youth,” remarked His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos. “We must continue to identify new ways to keep them engaged in learning about our faith, so that they may also live their faith on a daily basis. I am grateful for this opportunity we are sharing and I look forward to the continuation of these efforts.”

The guest presenter for this program is Dr. Drew Baker, a K-12 educator with a love for the Orthodox Faith and passing it on to younger generations. He serves as the Educational Specialist from Professional Development in Henrico County Schools and teaches graduate education courses in curriculum design, educational technology, and educational psychology at the University of Richmond. At the University level he researches student engagement strategies, project based learning, and instructional design. Drew is a lifelong member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Richmond, VA, where he has taught high school religious education for thirteen years and now serves as one of the religious education directors there. He also has spent time in youth ministry working at many Orthodox summer camps and retreats including the Ionian Village in Greece, Saint Nicholas Ranch and Retreat Center in California, and Camp Saint Paul in New York.
