Schismatic parish’s board votes to return to Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia’s jurisdiction

Board members of the schismatic church of St. Spyridon in Clayton, Melbourne, on Sunday voted in favor recommending that the parish’s return to the jurisdiction of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, and by extension, to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.

Congregants of the parish are set to vote upon the board’s recommendation during an extraordinary general assembly on Sunday.

A majority of board members appear ready to accept the only condition set by the Archbishop of Australia, His Eminence Makarios, namely, that the deed to the Church of St. Spyridon be transferred to the Archdiocese’s trust, in order to ensure that the cathedral is never sold, used as a mortgage guarantee or transferred to another ecclesiastical dogma.
